Texas Sheet Cake from Easy Bread Recipes

My focus for Easy Bread Recipes is on breads.  However, I will also be including cakes as part of the Easy Bread Recipes.  I think cakes fit in with breads nicely and they are delicious.

Today I am giving you a favorite dessert of my family.  TEXAS SHEET CAKE!

This is an awesome recipe that takes about the same amount of time as doing a cake out of a box, but with much better flavor and texture.

Cake Ingredients
Flour--2 cups
Sugar--2 cups
Baking Soda--1 teaspoon
Salt--1/2 teaspoon
Water--1 cup
Cocoa--4 tablespoons
Butter--2 sticks
Eggs--2 eggs
Sour cream--1 cup
Vanilla--1 teaspoon

1)  Mix flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.

2)  In a saucepan, bring the water, cocoa, and butter to a boil.  Pour directly into the flour mixture.  (DO NOT COOL)

3)  Add the eggs, sour cream, and vanilla and mix well.

4)  Pour into greased 10 x 15 sheet pan and bake in preheated oven at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.

With about 5 minutes left to bake start the frosting:

Frosting Ingredients
Butter--1/2 stick
Cocoa--2 tablespoons
Milk--3 tablespoons
Confectioners(powdered) Sugar--2 cups  (This works best if sifted before adding)
Vanilla--1 teaspoon
Chopped walnuts--optional

1)  In a saucepan, combine the butter, cocoa, and milk.  Cook over medium heat until it just starts to bubble.

2)  Remove from heat and add the confectioners sugar and vanilla and mix until smooth.

3)  Pour over the cake and top with chopped walnuts.
